Question: How does chlorine affect my hair? Answer: Now that the weather is warmer, everyone starts going to the pool way more often. When you start to spend time in chlorine, it will start to build up in your hair. This may cause color to fade, a green hue in lighter hair colors, matting at the nape, dehydration, unhealthy feeling and texture, and unsightly build up in the hair. What can you do to prevent this? You can use a swimming cap, which helps a considerable amount but won't fully protect your hair. A small amount of leave in conditioner like Rusk Sensories Smoother in the hair before you put it in the cap can help a lot. What we recommend is to thoroughly shampoo your hair with a clarifying shampoo immediately after you get out of the pool. This will remove the most amount of chlorine, leave you with little to no build up. We suggest using Rusk Sensories Clarify Shampoo or Nioxin Intensive Therapy Clarifying Cleanser. We also offer an in salon treatment for serious cases of chlorine build up, ask your stylist for details! |
Question: What are parabens and why are they in hair products? Answer: Parabens are a class of chemicals widely used as preservatives in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. Parabens are effective preservatives in many types of formulas. They were originally used as an effective preservative, allowing product companies to use natural ingredients in hair products. Studies are now showing the adverse effects of parabens in our bodies and how we break them down. A lot of companies still use them in the manufacturing of their products, so make sure you check the labels if this is a concern. If you are interested in a product free from not only parabens but sulfates, petrochemicals, phthalates, and MEA/DEA/TEA, try out Rusk's new Sensories Wellness line. There are 3 different shampoos and conditioners to suit your specific hair type, and they contain globally sourced organic ingredients! |
